National Gout Awareness Day is held every year on May 22. During this day, the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) amplifies its efforts to raise public awareness of gout – an extremely painful form of inflammatory arthritis, which affects more than 8.3 million Americans today.
Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, yet the vast majority of Americans know almost nothing about it – and just 10 percent of people with gout are getting needed, ongoing treatment. Recognizing an urgent need to raise gout awareness and encourage more sufferers to take steps toward optimal gout management, the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) has created and offers complimentary resources for both the public and medical professionals on its website.
